In Shingon Buddhism, these powerful flames are said to burn away worldly desires (bonno), symbolizing spiritual purification and rebirth. Every curve of the fire is carved with deep intent. The Material: Kiso Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) The wood used is Kiso Hinoki, a legendary timber from the Kiso Valley in Japan. Known for its fine grain, durability, and divine fragrance, this wood has been used for centuries to build Japan’s most sacred shrines and temples. The material for this project was specially provided for this commission.
