Mitsumata is a deciduous shrub in the Thymelaeaceae family. In spring, small ball-shaped yellow or white flowers bloom at the ends of its branches. The name comes from the fact that its branches split into three. It is said to have been introduced from China, but it is also known as a raw material for Japanese paper, and grows wild in mountainous areas of Japan.
