大分県豊後大野市にある轟橋から撮影したものです。橋の両側には、縦に割れ目が多数入った岩壁があります。9万年前の阿蘇山の大噴火の際、高温の火砕流が豊後大野市の地を埋め尽くしたと言われています。火砕流が冷えて固まる際に体積が収縮し、柱を束ねたような割れ目が多数できたことから「柱状節理」と呼ばれています。溶岩層に囲まれた渓谷に響く鳥のさえずり、川の音をお楽しみ下さい。 This video was taken from Todoroki Bridge in Bungo-Ono City, Oita Prefecture. On both sides of the bridge are rock walls with numerous vertical cracks. It is said that during the great eruption of Mount Aso 90,000 years ago, high-temperature pyroclastic flows filled the land of Bungo-Ono City. As the pyroclastic flows cooled and solidified, their volume contracted, creating numerous cracks that resemble bundles of pillars, hence the name "columnar joints."
